FAMILY FRIENDLY EATING

Tavistock is a great place to visit with family and friends, boasting a variety of places to take the whole family to eat. From cafes overlooking the Church green, grub the kids will love at affordable prices to a top-50 gastro pub, the options are plentiful. You will find that many places offer special menus for children and we have highlighted a few of them:

Church Lane offers lovely views overlooking the Church green and their kids menu is certain to delight. £9 for a main course of pizza or pasta plus dessert.

The Queens Head Wetherspoons is a firm favourite with lots of options for the whole family in the lovely surroundings of this former coaching inn.

Mime Café on Paddon’s Row does graze plates for smaller ones and offers a healthy breakfast, brunch or lunch alternative. When you are done here, explore the quaint shops in one of the oldest parts of town.

The Original Pasty House is a great place to feed the family on a budget, with a children’s menu and options including sandwiches and pasties.

The Cornish Arms was recently awarded the second spot on the list of Top 50 Gastro pubs and they do a splendid children’s menu too. Definitely worth a visit when in town.

Outside the Pannier Market you will find Dukes Café with lots of outside seating, so perfect if you have a pooch in tow too, and a great menu including one just for the kids.

Robertsons won an award for its pizza back in 2010 and is a firm favourite among locals. With a wide-ranging menu for all the family, the kids menu is £8 for pizza or pasta plus dessert.

And if it is fish & chips you fancy, both TJ & LJ’s Fish & Chips or Mickey’s Plaice have a lots of options plus fun children’s boxes.

Finally, a trip to Trudy Scrumptious in the Meadows is a must after completing the Easter Trail – with food, ice-cream and waffles on offer followed by a trip to the playground, the end to a perfect day!

WALK IN NATURE THIS SPRING

The hedgerows around us are coming to life, the sun is (mostly) shining and it’s a wonderful time to explore the area that surrounds us to see nature at its most glorious. There are so many choices, from open moorland to lush valleys, there is sure to be something for everyone. Your adventure awaits!

Our top picks include some of the best pubs around – how better to reward yourself after some stirring exercise than a pint and pub food at the end of it?

SPRING BREAKS

Have we mentioned that Tavistock really is a lovely place to be in springtime? Definitely worth an overnight (or two) to explore further. With or without family in tow, there are lots of different accommodation options to suit all budgets.

You won’t go far wrong with a stay at the centrally located Bedford Hotel – a stone’s throw from the market square, the fascinating Guildhall, and Tavistock’s leafy riverside walks. Alternatively, it boasts large and luxurious Family Rooms offering plenty of space, with a double bed, a single bed, and space for a fold-out bed or cot.
