Respect Fest 2026 runs from 12th -20th September and features an exciting range of free events and activities, including an Afghan cultural afternoon; Caribbean dance sessions; art, textiles and cookery workshops; and a global music night. Early Music specialists, the Morley Consort, present a concert of 16th and 17th Century music with local connections, performing on historically accurate instruments, with narrations from period first-hand accounts. Part of a short Devon tour, with concerts in Ashburton, Totnes, Exeter and on the Golden Hinde ship in London. The Morley Consort are supported by the Continuo Foundation.
Kicking off the evening, we have 'What?' A group of young and talented musicians that have formed through Tavistock Youth Cafe's 'Zephyr Music Project'. With a shared passion of rock music from various decades, the band will take you on a rock journey playing covers and originals! Followed by Anairda; a Latin American singer-songwriter and activist based in Plymouth, known for her strong vocals and heartfelt performances. Anairda blends uplifting world folk-rock with Latin influences. Her multilingual and progressive lyrics have been described as “inspiring, fiery and deeply radical”. She will be playing with Raphaelle Ahmad on cajon and Charlie Carr on bass. To finish the evening, we have a Global Rhythms DJ set. Get ready for an unforgettable sonic journey; bringing you two hours of pure global rhythm with two exceptional world music DJs. Experience a masterful blend of roots reggae, Afro funk, Afro Cuban, South African house, Bhangra, and samba—all curated via both classic vinyl and cutting-edge digital tracks. DJ Bop Mali Driven by an unmatched passion for global sounds, Bop Mali bridges the gap between traditional rhythms and modern beats. Respect Fest's finale Festival Day at the Butchers' Hall and Bedford Square on Sunday 20 September, features performances from Suntou Susso, the Wheelhouse Folk Choir, Tavi Sings The World Choir, May Day Morris and RSVP Bhangra. Writer and comedian Robin Ince is also set to appear. There will be exhibitions, free music, dance and singing workshops, art and craft activities, henna and a pop-up global cafe.
