Your mission is to travel back in time and discover some of the important things that were made and sold in Tavistock through the ages. Visit 15 of the town’s traders and gather items that the Duke of Bedford needs to earn a sweet reward and sticker. A fun way to learn more about the town's fascinating history. Pick up your trail sheet from the Visitor Information Centre (Tues-Sat). Trail commences midday on Saturday 12th September and runs until Saturday 19th September. Tavistock's much-loved Dickensian Evening takes place on 4th December, 2026. Step back in time at Tavistock's Dickensian Evening, a magical late-night shopping event. Shopkeepers don traditional attire, and the town comes alive with festive entertainment, including stilt walkers, choirs, and bands. Enjoy the scent of chestnuts, a traditional merry-go-round, and browse craft, food, and gift stalls. The evening begins with a lantern parade at 5:30pm and light switch-on at 5:45pm.
