    This flat walk, with Paul Blowey, along the entire accessible route of the picturesque Tavistock Canal, from its source at Abbey Weir around 2.5 miles to Lumburn, where the canal originally branched off to the slate quarry at Mill Hill. En-route we will discover the role of the canal in developing the prosperity of Tavistock in the 19th century. We will also pass the birthplace of Sir Francis Drake, and may even spot the resident kingfisher! This walk will take about 3 hours and is approximately 5 miles long. Part of this walk is on open ground. Please wear suitable footwear and be prepared for inclement weather. The walk commences at 2pm from outside the Tavistock Visitor Information Centre in Guildhall Square and lasts for 3 hours. Tickets are £5 per person

Try your hand at calligraphy, plant a seed, learn about the life cycle of a bee and have a go at weaving. A relaxing and creative morning inspired by the people who once called the Abbey home. • 10.00 am –1.00 pm | Guildhall Heritage Centre • FREE entry (suggested donation of £1 per child for materials) • Children must be accompanied by an adult. • Activities take place at the rear of the Guildhall Courtroom.     Your perfect gentle overview of the colourful history and heritage of this 1,000-year-old World Heritage Site town. This 90 minute, predominantly flat walk over approximately 1 mile will take you on a journey through ten centuries, revealing Abbey and Churches, Mineral Mining and the Industrial Revolution, the building of the Canal and Railways and the influence of the Dukes of Bedford, which can be seen almost everywhere you look! Today the town retains much of its built heritage and prides itself on being England’s premier market town. The walk commences at 2pm from outside the Tavistock Visitor Information Centre in Guildhall Square and lasts for 90 minutes. Tickets are £5 per person

Simon walked the beat as a local policeman over a period spanning four decades so had plenty of opportunity to find lost alleyways, little known abbey remains and curiosities hidden in plain sight! You are guaranteed to end this walk saying “Well, I didn’t know that!”. The walk commences at 2pm from outside the Tavistock Visitor Information Centre in Guildhall Square and lasts for 90 minutes.
